Defend yourself… there is attempt at ethnic cleansing in Nigeria – Gen. TY Danguma warns

Nigeria's former Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma(retd) has revealed that there is an attempt by the power that be to conduct ethnic cleansing in some rural communities across the country.

He disclosed this at the maiden convocation of the Taraba State University , Jalingo , Taraba State, an event monitored by Punch Newspaper.

According to him, there is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in the state and of course, some rural states in Nigeria.

He said, “ I am not a politician and politics is one profession I don ’t want to belong to because if I am a politician, I would not say what I am going to say to you now.

“ When I arrived this arena, I saw rich cultural display , and I was amazed at the rich cultural heritage of our people . Taraba is a mini Nigeria with diverse ethnic groups living together peacefully , but the peace in this state is under assault.

“ We must resist it. We must stop it. Everyone of us must rise up, “ he cautioned.

Meanwhile, The Defence Headquarters quickly rejected the allegations on Saturday evening.
Defence spokesperson, John Agim, told PREMIUM TIMES the allegations were unfounded.

“General Danjuma is someone we all hold in highest esteem because he served the military with impeccable record,” Mr. Agim said by telephone. “But we reject the allegation completely.”

Mr. Agim said the military would discipline any officer once an allegation of connivance with attackers has been established.

“The Nigerian military as a professional organisation will mete out the strongest punishment to any officer caught to have colluded with attackers,” Mr. Agim said.

“But the military as an institution will never sanction attacks on the civilians and we respectfully disagree with General Danjuma.”

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Ajaokuta Steel plant up for sale again!

Oredola Adeola| The Federal Government through its ongoing privatisation programme has put Ajaokuta Steel Company up for sale. This was confirmed by Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor while briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/ World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia on Sunday. The CBN Governor disclosed that the privatisation programme is coordinated by the National Council on Privatisation, while the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) will be conducting a total review of the process of privatisation and payment for the steel industry to pave way for investors. He further stated that some of the country’s assets have been up for sale, under the ongoing privatisation programme, with the aim of raising more funds to finance the 2018 deficit-based budget.
