Ondo govt. inaugurates 51km road linking Ondo- waterside to Lekki, Lagos state

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has officially launched the construction of the road at Araromi in Ilaje Local Government Area, linking the Ondo water-side to Lekki Lagos State.

The flag-off for the road construction was held on Wednesday March 14, 2018 at Araromi Ondo State.




This was contained in a statement released by Mr.Allen Sowore, Special Assistant, New Media at Ondo State Government.

Recall that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) signed Memorandum of Understanding  for the construction of the Araromi Seaside-Akodo-Lekki Road in April 5, 2017.

Speaking during the event, Governor Akeredolu disclosed that the road at completion would not only bring tremendous benefits to the people of the area, but would also link other Niger.

The Ondo state Governor said, “The attendant socio-economic benefits which the completion of this road will bring are considerable. There will be an unprecedented influx of visitors to our state through this route.

" The sons and daughters of these communities too will no longer have excuses not to visit as frequently as possible. Economic activities will improve and real wealth will be created for the benefit of our people,” the Governor said.

He however appealed to the youths of Ondo South Senatorial District to cooperate with contractors and security personnel that would be deployed to construct the for early and seamless completion.

 He charged them to shun activities that would cause situations that might give rise to negative reports on the project.

Akeredolu, however assured the community that the project would not suffer the fate others hurriedly conceived to achieve parochial political ends.

He said: "The knowledge of the indispensability of a link road between our coastal communities and Lagos, the commercial capital of the country, propel this Administration to ensure that this construction does not only take off, but we are also reassuring our people that we shall be back to commission it in due course."

Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, Mr. Gbenga Edema, hailed Governor Akeredolu for opening up the road to facilitate the economic development of the State Southern Senatorial District.

Edema confidently proclaim that "the hands of Akeredolu which laid the foundation of the road shall also complete it."

Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Chairman of the NDDC, gave the assurance that the project would not be abandoned.

 He added that NDDC was not in competition with any State Government, but always ready to partner with them for their socio-economic development.

Ndoma-Egba however debunked the notion that NDDC does not complete projects. He vowed that all the projects embarked upon by the commission in Ondo state and other Niger-Delta states will be completed.

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6).
