Dangote targets 18,000 hectares of land for rice production, mills in Ondo state

As part of target to produce 10million tonnes of rice  and establish 10 rice mills in across Nigeria by year 2020, Dangote Rice Limited is ready to partner with Ondo State Government to establish Rice Mills in the state.



The General Manager Dangote Rice Limited , Dr. Sanni Dawop, announced this in a statement on Wednesday during a meeting with the Ondo State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Adefarati Gboyega and Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Agriculture, Pastor Akin Olotu.

The project which was part of the Dangote ’s Rice Outgrower Scheme, got  boosted with the company’s resolve to partner with Ondo State government in the area of rice production.

According to Dr. Dawop, Dangote has  continued to pioneer new approaches to empowering our Youths, and young graduates through rice production, thereby creating thousands of jobs and increasing incomes.

He said, “ Our mission is to reduce poverty in the Society by providing high quality agro- inputs , technical support and secured market for farmers as well as to make permanent and sustainable impact,” he stated.

About 18,000 hectares of land are suitable for rice planting, thousands of graduates are expected to benefit from Ondo State Government’s partnership arrangement with Dangote Group in a project that will create employment and as well boost the economy of this state.

The Ondo state Agric commissioner said, " Ondo state is blessed with fertile land. Araromi to Lekki road is under construction, and its less than hour, we can assure you the road would be completed within a year, as this will also be an added advantage."

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6).
