FG, Ogun relocate Abeokuta rail main station to Oke-Mosan trade fair complex site

Succour came the way of residents Workers Estate, Laderin, as the Federal Government and the Ogun state government have agreed on relocation of Abeokuta rail main station, under the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan rail project to the Moshood Abiola International Trade Fair Complex, Oke-Mosan, Kobape road, Abeokuta.

This is contrary to initial plans to locate it around the Workers Estate, Laderin, where about 1000 houses were initially penciled down for demolition, with the payment of about N2.8 billion compensation expected to be paid to likely residents, whose houses would have been demolished.

Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun jointly took this decision, when the minister came on an inspection visit to the site at the weekend.

The decision was to save thousands of houses from being demolished and also reduce the amount to be paid as compensation.

The minister however said the December 2018 deadline given to the contractors, handling the project still stands, adding that the Federal Government is poised to build a lasting infrastructure that will make life more meaningful for the people.

He stated further that with the resolution of the location, which had been hampering the progress of work on the project, contractors will immediately be directed to commence work on the project.
Amosun has however assured that the Trade Fair complex will be relocated to another beffiting site.
