Senator Melaye returns to National hospital in Abuja, on order of Kogi State CJ


The Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, has granted an interim order for the transfer of embattled, Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye to the National Hospital Abuja, pending the hearing of his bail conditions on Monday, May 7,2018.



Recall that  Melaye was on Wednesday May 2, transferred to the Police medical centre in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

After that, the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja on Thursday  remanded him in police custody following his arraignment on seven counts charges of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

The Chief Judge gave the order on Friday, May 5, at the High Court in Lokoja,  when Counsel to Senator Melaye, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) filed processes for motion seeking the bail of the Senator who is standing trial for conspiracy and gun running among other charges brought against him.

The interim order, the Chief Judge explained was to enable the senator receive medical attention, following the lack of facilities at the Police Clinic in Lokoja where he is been held in police custody.

According to the CJ, the interim order became necessary as the prosecution could not provide a federal prison in Abuja that has the required health facilities with capacity to attend to the health condition of Senator Melaye.

The Chief Judge ordered the commissioner of police to be served through his counsel in court, while the Senator be taken to the National Hospital Abuja, still under the custody of the Police.

In his submission for bail, Mike Ozekhome, counsel to Sen. Melaye prayed the court for a speedy trial of the matter.
