Comrade Gbolahan Yusuf, aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, on the platform of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, (Alimosho Constituency 1) has commended President Buhari for the final assent on the 2018 Appropriation Bill on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

He also chided the National Assembly over the delay in the passage of the bill. Increasing the budget from N8.6 trillion to N9.120 trillion due to insertion on the part of the National Assembly, according to him, is a bad omen on the business of governance.
Speaking further, Comrade Gholahan, who is also the Director of CAYO foundation, revealed that the bill tagged: Budget of Consolidation 2018, irrespective of the delay in the passage and assent, has the capacity to solve critical issues affecting the country.
He however urged the relevant Ministries, departments and agencies of government to demonstrate patriotism in the implementation of the budget despite late passage, in the overall interest of Nigerians and particularly to improve on quality of life of an average Nigeria.
He disclosed that if the budget is judiciously implemented before May next year- which is the end of the financial year- there is every tendency for the country to sustain the recovery made over recession.
He added that the fact that great attention is given to capital expenditure above recurrent expenditure, is a sign that the APC-led government is determined about the change agenda it promised Nigerians at the inception of this administration.
He said, “ Volume of capital projects springing up across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, almost at the same time, are signs of seriousness on the part of the Buhari's administration to improving on the standard of living of Nigerians.
“ I am in tune with the impact of the social intervention programmes and empowerment initiatives of the present administration, all of which, formed contents of the appropriation bills since 2016. Testimonies of progress abound and these must be sustained.
“ Therefore , I want to urge the members of the National Assembly to realise that they have hurt the feelings of Nigerians, with the delay in the passage of the bill. Seven-months, is such a long time, no matter what the excuses are.
“ As an intending lawmaker, I think the interest of Nigerians and their wellbeing should override our political interests, hence prompt passage of laws capable of improving their lives.
- “ I will also urge the executive, to urgently supply the national assembly, the supplementary and/or amendment budget for expeditious consideration. The Federal Government should also look into how to align the submission of the appropriation bill with a predictable January-December financial year.
“This is would tilt Nigeria towards improving the budgeting process and restoring our country to the January-December fiscal cycle and deliver on country’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) 2017-2020,” Comrade Gholahan said.
