Opeyemi Bamidele, a former member of the house of representatives and fomer Guber-aspirant during the APC Ekiti Governorship primary election was shot while standing beside Dr. Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate of the APC on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The shooting took place during a reception organised for Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate of the party, to kick off his Governorship campaign rally in Ekiti State.
The shooter was later apprehended and investigated by the Police authorities.
Bamidele has been rushed to the hospital and undergoing surgery , as another APC member was confirmed dead due to the gunshot.
Some of the dignitaries who were with Dr.Fayemi during the rally were, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Chief Bisi Egbeyemi.
According to an eye witness, who does not want his name in print, a mobile police personnel was seen aiming at the governorship candidate while he was making an address on the balcony of the party secretariat. Sporadic gun shots were fired, MOB was hit so also were three others.
Report also said there were one fatality.
Earlier, Governor Ayodele Fayose had made spirited attempts to scuttle today's welcome rally. He had used the state controlled media to issue inflammatory statement to threaten the person of Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his supporters.
