The results of the Saturday bye election in the Ibarapa State constituency of Oyo State obtained from unit level indicate that Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party is ahead of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, is one of the sons of late industrialist from Eruwa, Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin.
The Saturday election was scheduled by the Independent Electoral Commission(INEC) to fill the position rendered vacant by the death of the late Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Adeyemo, a lawyer who died on April 27, 2018 after a brief illness.
Trailing behind him was the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Olukunle Adeyemo, a brother of the late Michael Adeyemo.
Announcing the result, the returning officer, Dr Ayodeji Omole of the University of Ibadan, said Ogundoyin polled 6,277 votes to defeat Mr Olukunle Adeyemo of the All Progressives Party (APC), who came second with 4,619 votes.
He said Adebodun Adepoju of Accord Party scored 2,859 votes while Rasheedat Oyewumi of Fresh Democratic Party garnered 33 votes.
Others were Adekemi Raheem of Hope Democratic Party, 14 votes; Grace Olarinde of Nigerian Peoples Congress, 60 votes and Matins Adeyemo of Mega Party of Nigeria, 9 votes.
He stated that 14,332 voters were accredited and voted out of the 44,077 registered.
“Total votes cast are 14,179 while valid votes are 13,871 and 308 votes were rejected,’’ he said.
He declared Ogundoyin as the winner “ having scored the highest votes as stipulated in the electoral law," he said.
The results, as at the period of filing this report, showed that PDP was leading with 6,213 votes, and is closely followed by APC which has 4,423 votes and Accord party that has 2,981.
According to Mr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, seven parties are fielding candidates for the vacant position.
They are Accord Party, People’s Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Fresh Democratic Party, Hope Democratic Party, Nigerian Peoples Congress and the Mega Party of Nigeria.
