Saraki's Kwara APC SEC retains grip on party, as Court bars Oshiomole, NWC, others' takeover of party

Adam Oshiomole, Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any person or officers of the party have been barred by an Ilorin High Court from dissolving or taking any action towards dissolving Kwara state executive committee of the party led by Mr. Isola Balogum-Fulani.

This was contained in the order of the court which granted the application and submission filled by Abdulwahab Bamidele, counsel to Isola Balogun – Fulani (chairman Kwara APC), Chief Christopher Tunji Ayeni, (secretary Kwara APC), who are claimants /applicants in the suit number KWS /292/218 filed before the court of Justice TS Umar.

The claimant had dragged the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and five others before the court on the purported dissolution of the Kwara APC executive committee by the NWC of the party.

Other defendants/respondents in the suit include Mallam Mai Mala Binu, National Secretary of APC, the party, APC NWC, INEC and Hon. Bashiru Bolarinwa (for himself and on behalf of members of the so-called or purported caretaker committee of Kwara state chapter of APC).

The reliefs which was heard and granted the appellants by the court read in part:

“the court restrains the members of the NWC of the third defendant or any person or officers of the third defendant purporting to act for the third defendant from dissolving or taking any action towards dissolving Kwara state executive committee of the third defendant represented by the chairman/applicant who are duly elected to office as members of the executive committee of the third defendant in Kwara state on May 19,2018, in accordance with the constitution of the third defendant pending the hearing and determination of the claimants /applicants motion on notice.

“That this honourable court restrains the sixth defendant and other members of the so-called or purported caretaker committee of Kwara state chapter of the APC from showing off or parading themselves or performing any function or duty specified for members of the executive committee of the third defendant either individually or collectively as members of the executive committee of members of caretaker committee of the third defendant in Kwara state pending the hearing and determination of the claimants claimants applicants /applicant motion on notice.

The court however adjourned the motion on notice till August 7, 2018, for hearing.

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Ajaokuta Steel plant up for sale again!

Oredola Adeola| The Federal Government through its ongoing privatisation programme has put Ajaokuta Steel Company up for sale. This was confirmed by Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor while briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/ World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia on Sunday. The CBN Governor disclosed that the privatisation programme is coordinated by the National Council on Privatisation, while the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) will be conducting a total review of the process of privatisation and payment for the steel industry to pave way for investors. He further stated that some of the country’s assets have been up for sale, under the ongoing privatisation programme, with the aim of raising more funds to finance the 2018 deficit-based budget.
