President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, pending the determination of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
President Buhari announced the suspension at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja today.
According to him, the suspension was based on the order of the CCT directing the Presidency to suspend Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial.
The President has immediately swore in Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed as the acting CJN, being the most senior justice of the Supreme Court.
The ceremony was performed at the Presidential villa, Abuja on Friday.
