2019 Presidential poll: INEC adjourns collations, announcement of results to Monday

The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) has postponed the  collation and announcement of Presidential election that held on Saturday February 23, till 11 am on Monday February 25. Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Commission made this disclosure during the formal opening of the collation centre for the Presidential election at the International Conference Centre Abuja on Sunday.

Recall that as at Sunday evening in 2015, the results had started coming from INEC.



In his first official address to the party officials, journalists,  local and international observers at the collation centre, Professor Yakubu announced the rules guiding the conduct of elections especially  in the case of announcement of the results. He however adjourned the proceeding to the next day( Monday)

The INEC Chairman said, “ At the moment no State Collation Officer is around. Some of them are expected tonight. Accordingly, proceedings are hereby adjourned. We will reconvene by 11am tomorrow Monday for the collation of results”, he declared.

 INEC had earlier said in Ekiti, the process had since been concluded and the State Collation Officer was being expected in Abuja but as at 7pm, he was yet to arrive. Some of the officers would come by road while others would come by air depending on their proximity to Abuja.

“Meanwhile, collation of results from yesterday’s elections continue nationwide. Almost all the states have concluded RA Collation and are now collating results at the LGA level. Some have commenced state level collation.

"We expect the state collation officers for the Presidential elections to start arriving at the National Collation Centre later today and early morning tomorrow. Accordingly, the National Collation Centre will be officially declared open today at 6pm.

“ Collation will commence as soon as the results arrive from the states. I wish to state that Ekiti state has already concluded the process. The state collation officer for the Presidential election is, as we speak, on his way to Abuja with the result of the Presidential election for Ekiti”, Yakubu had said

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Dr Ibrahim Kana , Chairman, National Medical Team, released the figure in Madinah from the commission ’s National Medical Team Electronic Health Medical Records.
