Dino Melaye, Ekweremadu win Senate seats

Senator Dino Melaye and Ike Ekweremadu both of the Peoples Democratic Party, in Kogi West and Enugu West Senatorial Districts have both been declared winner in the Senatorial election held on Feb. 23.

In the case of Kogi West Senatorial Districts, the Returning Officer , Prof. Emmanuel Bala announced in the early hours of Monday in Lokoja that Melaye polled 85, 395 votes to defeat Sen . Smart Adeyemi of the APC who scored 66, 901 votes.

In another interesting development, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu , PDP candidate has also been declared winner of Enugu West Senatorial District for the fifth time in Saturday National Assembly election.

Ekweremadu polled 86,088 votes to defeat his closest rival , Mrs Juliet Ibekaku - Nwagwu of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ) who scored 15,187 votes.

The Returning Officer , Prof Douglas Nwagbo of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka ( UNN) announced the results in Awgu on Sunday.
Reacting to his victory , Senator Ekweremadu expressed satisfaction with the result, applauding the INEC for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections. (NAN )

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Dr Ibrahim Kana , Chairman, National Medical Team, released the figure in Madinah from the commission ’s National Medical Team Electronic Health Medical Records. Ajaokuta Steel plant up for sale again!

Oredola Adeola| The Federal Government through its ongoing privatisation programme has put Ajaokuta Steel Company up for sale. This was confirmed by Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor while briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/ World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia on Sunday. The CBN Governor disclosed that the privatisation programme is coordinated by the National Council on Privatisation, while the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) will be conducting a total review of the process of privatisation and payment for the steel industry to pave way for investors. He further stated that some of the country’s assets have been up for sale, under the ongoing privatisation programme, with the aim of raising more funds to finance the 2018 deficit-based budget.
