Dogara returns to HoR, as Saraki loses Senate seat

Yakubu Dogara the Speaker of the House of Representatives, candidate of PDP, has been declared as Winner of the Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Federal Constituency election in Bauchi State, with 73,609 votes defeating Mr Dalhatu Kantana, candidate of APC who polled 50,078 votes.

The Speaker was however  declared the winner in the National Assembly election which held on Saturday 23, by the INEC’s returning officer for the constituency  on Sunday at the collation centre in Bauchi.

With this result, the Speaker is expected to return to the Federal House of Representative Abuja, may choose to recontested as Speaker.

In a related event, Senate President, Bukola Saraki has lost his seat as Senator representing Kwara Central, as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party to Dr. Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress , in Saturday’ s Senatorial election which held in Kwara State.

The result was announced by the Senatorial District Returning Officer , Prof. Olatunbosun Owoyomi from the University of Ilorin.

Oloriegbe polled a total of 123, 808 votes to defeat the Dr. Saraki, who polled 68, 994 votes in the four local governments areas that make Central Senatorial District.

In Asa local government , Dr Oloriegbe of the APC polled a total of 15,932 votes to defeat Saraki that scored 11, 252 votes.

The APC candidate also got 30, 014 votes in Ilorin East local government to 14 ,654 polled by his PDP rival in the Senatorial race.

In Ilorin West , stronghold of Sen. Saraki, Oloriegbe polled 51, 531 votes to defeat the senate president with 30, 075 votes.

The situation was the same in Ilorin South where the APC senatorial candidate floored the Senate President with 26, 331 votes as against 13, 031 votes garnered by Saraki.

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Dr Ibrahim Kana , Chairman, National Medical Team, released the figure in Madinah from the commission ’s National Medical Team Electronic Health Medical Records.
