Nigerian voters to enjoy discounted airfares as Aero Contractor, Arik Air offer promo

Oredola Adeola|

Nigerian eligible voters who are willing to travel by air to their polling stations across the country have been offered discounted airfares by Aero Contractors and Arik Air, as part of measures to encourage participation in the rescheduled Presidential election billed for Saturday February 23.

These travellers have  been asked to present their Permanent Voters Card(PVC) to enjoy from the promo fares. This announcement was made in separate statements released on Monday, by spokespersons of the two national carriers.

Chika Ubendu, the spokesperson for Aero Contractors, said the airline has decided to slash its fares by 50% to encourage the citizens to travel to where they can cast their votes.

According to Ubendu, the promo will be effective from February 18 for travels between February 21 and February 25 on all her routes.

Arik Air's, Adebanji Ola, said the N16,000 Fly to Vote promotion was to encourage Nigerians to travel to their respective wards to cast their votes during the elections.

“The N16, 000 promotional fare is the one-way ticket cost to any domestic destination on Arik Air’s network and customers must present a valid Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) at the point of purchase and at check-in to be eligible to fly,” he said.

“The Fly to Vote promotion is available for sale from February 18 till March 11 for travel between February 21 and February 26 as well as March 7 till March 12.

“We have put this promotional fare in place to ameliorate the effect of the postponement on the travelling public and encourage voter participation," the Arik Air official said.

Recall that INEC on the eve of February 16 cancelled Presidential election announced the postponement of the election to February 23, due to logistics reason.

Many voters, had before election, travelled from different destinations to their polling units to participate in the voting process before it was cancelled and rescheduled.

This action of the electoral commission has however discouraged some of these voters that have spent so much to traffic themselves to their various polling units.

It is against this backdrop that private organisations are offering this palliative measure to encourage voters to participate in the rescheduled poll.

Tinubu's new Presidential Jet, 5N-FGA, set to land in Abuja amid controversy

Oredola Adeola The new Presidential jet, an A330-200 registered as 5N-FGA, is about to land in Abuja. Editorials obtained this from data from RadarBox on Sunday evening. Recall that the acquisition of this aircraft has been a subject of intense debate, given Nigeria's ongoing economic challenges.  Critics argue that the $100 million spent on the jet is an inappropriate use of funds at a time when the government struggles to address basic needs, such as paying the minimum wage. However, supporters of the purchase, including members of the National Assembly, have defended the decision.  They contend that the current presidential fleet, which includes a 19-year-old Boeing aircraft, is outdated and poses safety risks.  They also argued that a reliable and modern presidential jet is crucial for national representation and security.  The House of Representatives had earlier endorsed the acquisition, emphasizing the importance of operational efficiency for the presid...
