Osinbajo donates N1million to ailing comic actor, Baba Suwe

The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had donated N1million to ailing comic Bollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, fondly called Baba Suwe.

The VP reportedly released the cash to the Baba Suwe through the Youth Organising Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Idris Aregbe on Thursday.

Recall that Baba Suwe's health issue has been in the news for some days as he suspected to be down with diabetic complications among other ailments.

Idris Aregbe, Youth Organising Secretary of APC Lagos, who on behalf of the VP paid a visit to the actor at his residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, also delivered a goodwill message to the comic actor.

Baba Suwe, upon the receipt of the donation however commended Professor Osinbajo for his kind gesture. He described the gesture as a timely response to his call for financial assistance from well- meaning Nigerians.

Baba Suwe however told the VP's team that his treatment abroad would cost him a total of N10million.

Mr. Latin, President of the Theater Arts and Motions Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) had recently claimed to have been footing the health bills of the actor.

While top Nollywood stars including Kunle Afod , Sonyeri and other top acts have paid Baba Suwe courtesy visits to make their donations in support of the funds needed for the treatment.

Yomi Fabiyi, Baba Suwe ’s long- time aide and award- winning actor , had earlier, in a message posted on Instagram , disclosed that some people had responded to calls to donate funds for the actor's treatment.

He had written, “ Colleagues, such as Liz Anjorin, Iyabo Ojo, Adekaz Films and Marketing , Wale Olaleye and a few others who confirmed deposits and invariably sent some evidence to me.

"I am equally aware that the national executive of the Theatre and Movies Practitioners Association of Nigeria had sent a delegation through its Lagos Chapter and they will come up with something shortly . All other NGOs are well appreciated.

“Other colleagues and fans of Baba Suwe are also mobilising for funds. Things are looking up . I must commend all those that have visited him at home and donated cash , including Kazeem Abimbola (Jigan Babaoja ) and Uncle Kola Olootu , the iconic broadcaster .”

Fabiyi also said that due to additional complications in Baba Suwe’s health, it had become necessary to re- evaluate his condition and to review the cost of treating him abroad to avoid discrepancies.

2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6).
