SOKAPU, PDP debunk Governor El-Rufai's claim over death of 66 persons in Kaduna

The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) and the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) have denied the report over alleged killings of 66 Fulani in Kajuru Local Government Area.

The Kaduna State Government had on Friday February 15, condemned the killing of 66 persons in Kajuru LGA, while the PDP described the reported incident as fake news, adding that the Kujuru local govt where many people were killed  has no basis but the creation of APC  to cause  panic and confusion.

Recall that Governor Nasir El-Rufai had at 10pm on that Friday, via news on Channels TV and Television Continental( TVC) confirmed the crisis and the killings.

Samuel Aruwan, Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity to Kaduna State Government in a statement released on Friday, condemned the killing of 66 persons in Kajuru LGA, warning all communities against instigating attacks or reprisals. He disclosed that security agencies have been deployed to the area, while arrests have been made.

According to him, “Security agencies today reported the recovery of 66 bodies that were killed in attacks by criminal elements on various dispersed hamlets in the Maro Gida and Iri axis of Kajuru LGA. The settlements affected include Ruga Bahago, Ruga Daku, Ruga Ori, Ruga Haruna, Ruga Yukka Abubakar, Ruga Duni Kadiri, Ruga Shewuka and Ruga Shuaibu Yau.

“Among the victims were 22 children and 12 women. Four wounded persons rescued by the security agencies are now receiving medical attention. The killings are being investigated and residents are assured that indicted persons will be prosecuted," the Spokesman of Kaduna State Government said.

However  Yakubu lere, Deputy Director media and publicity, PDP Campaign Organization in the reaction made on behalf of the party said, claimed to have contacted its source  from Kajuru as well as police headquarters who confirmed that the story was false. He charged members of the party to remain calm and prepare their PVC to vote for all the candidates of the party.

The party also called on the Police authorities and DSS to track down those disseminating  this rumours. The main opposition party also  called on the  Kaduna state government to issue statement clearing the air on the issue in  order to boost people's confidence so that they  come out and vote.

The PDP spokesman warned that failure to do so, will clearly confirm  that, Apc is benefiting from the circulation of fake news, in the case of Kaduna killing.

In a twist to the whole report, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) in a statement denied the report over alleged killings of 66 Fulani in Kajuru Local Government Area. The Union claimed that  Governor El-Rufai’s comments over the Kajuru killings was deliberately orchestrated to inflame ethnic and religious sentiments to produce yet another cycle of bloodshed.

The Union in a statement signed by Yakubu Kuzamani, SOKAPU National Publicity Secretary, queried the motive behind the governor’s disclosure, made public less than 24 hours before the commencement of national polls that were postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The SOKAPU said it has reached out to the various community leaders in Kajuru, including officials of the Adara Nation to ascertain what actually happened.  Its findings show that on Sunday, February 10, 2019, the Adara natives residing in Ungwar Barde in Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area came under attack by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

It was gathered that  the attack lasted from 10pm of Sunday to 4am of Monday February 11, 2019, resulting in the death of no fewer than 11 lives, including a pregnant woman, were lost. While scores of victims of the attack on Ungwar Barde sustained injuries, with some of them presently receiving treatment at some health facilities in the state capital.

The Union further disclosed that the attackers, seven of them in number, were arrested by a team of policemen. Sadly, since the Sunday attack on Ungwan Barde, residents of Ungwan Busa and Doruwa located in Kajuru LGA deserted their villages for safety.

According to the SOKAPU, the Governor has summoned district Head of Kufana and four of his village heads, asking them to produce persons behind ‘reprisal attacks’.

However, the monarchs have denied knowledge of  any ‘reprisal attacks, and unable to identify persons behind such attacks. Apart from the 11 corpses of Adara natives that were killed during the Sunday attack.

The Union expressed shock over what it termed as a deliberate falsehood by Governor El-Rufai who found it convenient not to inform the world of an earlier attack that claimed the lives of 11 Adara natives.

SOKAPU alleged that Governor el-Rufai is on an irrevocable journey of inflaming ethnic conflagration that has always been in line with his deliberate chronicle of profiling Southern Kaduna people as favourably disposed to violence.
