"Kamaru Usman, fondly called Nigerian Nightmare, has made history by emerging as the 1st African-born (Nigeria) UFC champion by dethroning Tyron Woodley to win the welterweight title in the UFC 235 co-main event, held on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He defeated Tyron Woodley via unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-45).
Usman, 31, is an Edo State born Nigerian-American mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he is the current UFC Welterweight Champion.

In his entire professional career, out of a total 16 competitions, he has won 15 and lost one, with this recent victory he is now the 10th undisputed UFC welterweight champion after Miletich, Newton, Hughes, Penn, St-Pierre, Serra, Hendricks, Lawler, and Tyron Woodley.
On Saturday during the fight, Kamaru out-paced, out-striked and out-grappled, defending champion, Woodley for five rounds, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ picked up an unanimous decision on the night’s co-main event.

The Nigerian Nightmare's (15-1 MMA, 10-0 UFC) perfect octagon record continued with a one-sided decision victory over Woodley (19-4-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC) to claim the 170-pound title on the pay-per-view card.
Usman moved to the United States when he was eight(8) years, with his father, who was then a Nigerian soldier. He made his professional mixed martial art, MMA, debut in November 2012, competing for several regional promotions where he won most of his bout. He later tried out for the Ultimate Fighter in early 2015, and has been outstanding since then.
