Ajobiewe charges Nigerian actors, celebrities to plan future with insurance cover

Oredola Adeola | Veteran Yoruba Oral Poet, Chief Sulaimon Aremu Ayilara, fondly called, Ajobiewe, has charged all actors in Nigeria to plan for retirement by getting insurance cover. This according to him are veritable ways of investing in the future. He made this known in a conversation with SURPRISE AFRICA, during the just-concluded #Olojofestival2019, in Ile-Ife Osun State. According to him, " Most actors and creative industry players in advanced nations, USA, UK, China, India e.t.c operate with a better insurance cover which gives them opportunity to retire well and fall back on something whenever unexpected happens. "This is not common amongst actors and celebrities, here in Nigeria, and it is about time, we told ourselves the simple truth. We can't reap where we don't plant. Nigerian actors need to look out for insurance packages that would take care of life during and after stardom and fame. " There are so many insurance packages that creative industry stakeholders can apply for. Some of these packages will insure our works and lives against unforeseen incidents like illness of an actor, natural occurrence affecting performance and accidents during production", he cautioned fellow actors. He however noted that he had been performing his obligations through insurance packages, pension scheme, payments of taxes and duties and other civic responsibilities. Ajobiewe, who is popularly known for his panegyric poetry, noted that he has gained so much in terms of financial reward and respect from the entertainment industry since 1962 when he had his first stage performance. He restated his patriotic determination to give back to the country by paying taxes and other duties. Speaking about why he has remained relevant as a poet in the Yoruba movie industry, Ajobiewe disclosed that character and contentment are two main factors that have continued to earn him industry respect. He noted that he hasn't allowed material needs to becloud his pursuit for well-being. The Yoruba Poet whose only formal education was primary school leaving certificate he obtained in 1970, revealed that he composed most of his poems through research which he has continued to do till date. He however charged prospective poets to learn from the elders and mentors. He also maintained that talent, passion and character are three factors that make an actor relevant in the entertainment industry.
