Lagos govt. orders public primary schools to vacate by Friday, December 6

The Lagos State Government has instructed Pre-Primary and Primary schools in the state to vacate on Friday , December 6, 2019 for the first term 2019/2020 and resume on January 20, 2020 for second term 2019/2020 session.

The adjustment in the academic calendar was announced by the state government through the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in a circular signed by Mrs. M. A Folami, Acting Director, School Support Services for Executive Chairman, SUBEB, on November 27, 2019. According to Mrs Folami, the measure has become necessary because the Public Pre-Primary School and Primary School Head Teachers and Teachers would be attending Eko Excel Pre Service Professional Development and Technology Training programme between December 2019 and January 2020. In the circular, the SUBEB Acting Director said, "I’m directed to inform you that the Commissioner for Education has approved that the Y2019/2020 Academic calendar for Lagos Pre-Primary and Primary schools be adjusted thus: For the first term of 2019/2020 academic session Lagos State Public Primary Schools will vacate Friday, December 6th, 2029 as against the earlier date of December 13th, 2019. “For the second term of 2019/2020 academic session Lagos State Public Primary Schools will resume on January 20th 2020 as against the previous date of January 6th 2020.

Ajaokuta Steel plant up for sale again!

Oredola Adeola| The Federal Government through its ongoing privatisation programme has put Ajaokuta Steel Company up for sale. This was confirmed by Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor while briefing the Nigerian delegation at the end of the International Monetary Fund/ World Bank Group meetings in Bali, Indonesia on Sunday. The CBN Governor disclosed that the privatisation programme is coordinated by the National Council on Privatisation, while the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) will be conducting a total review of the process of privatisation and payment for the steel industry to pave way for investors. He further stated that some of the country’s assets have been up for sale, under the ongoing privatisation programme, with the aim of raising more funds to finance the 2018 deficit-based budget. 2019 Hajj: Six Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

A middle aged woman, pilgrim from Lagos State, slumped and died in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mecca during the devil stoning ritual at Jamarat Aqaba, outside Mina, thereby bringing the number of Nigerian pilgrims that have died in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia to six(6). The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria confirmed the death of the Nigerian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia . Dr Ibrahim Kana , Chairman, National Medical Team, released the figure in Madinah from the commission ’s National Medical Team Electronic Health Medical Records.
