The Lagos State Government has instructed Pre-Primary and Primary schools in the state to vacate on Friday , December 6, 2019 for the first term 2019/2020 and resume on January 20, 2020 for second term 2019/2020 session.
The adjustment in the academic calendar was announced by the state government through the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in a circular signed by Mrs. M. A Folami, Acting Director, School Support Services for Executive Chairman, SUBEB, on November 27, 2019.
According to Mrs Folami, the measure has become necessary because the Public Pre-Primary School and Primary School Head Teachers and Teachers would be attending Eko Excel Pre Service Professional Development and Technology Training programme between December 2019 and January 2020.
In the circular, the SUBEB Acting Director said, "I’m directed to inform you that the Commissioner for Education has approved that the Y2019/2020 Academic calendar for Lagos Pre-Primary and Primary schools be adjusted thus: For the first term of 2019/2020 academic session Lagos State Public Primary Schools will vacate Friday, December 6th, 2029 as against the earlier date of December 13th, 2019.
“For the second term of 2019/2020 academic session Lagos State Public Primary Schools will resume on January 20th 2020 as against the previous date of January 6th 2020.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the project is scheduled for Friday, August 23, and will be led by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. The Contractor , Craneburg Construction Company Ltd, began mobilizing its equipment to the site about 10 days ago, initiating palliative measures on one side of the road to ensure it remains passable while full-scale reconstruction commences on the opposite side. The interim repairs, which have already been carried out, span the Sango-Ota, Ilepa , Bosun , Pakoto, Ifo, Ewekoro, Itori, and Obada areas, with stone bases laid on the most deteriorated sections to ease the burden of travel during the construction period.
