Abidjan returnees boost Nigeria's Covid-19 cases in Osun, as 12 out of 127 emerge positive

Oredola Adeola| Twelve(12) out of 127 Osun State returnees from Cote D'Ivoire heading to Ejigbo, a town in the state, have tested positive to the Corona virus and have since been kept in the quarantine, while others who are in isolation are being tested. Investigation by our correspondent shows that some of the returnees in isolation had earlier played host to a few relatives under the cover of the night, which further raises the concern that more pesons may have contracted the deadly virus. As at 12:30 pm on 1st April, Osun State now trailed Lagos and FCT , with 14 confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing numbers to 174 confirmed cases in Nigeria, while nine(9) have been discharged and two (2) were confirmed dead. Lagos State has 82 positive cases while FCT has 28 positive cases. Osun- State now has 14, while Oyo-State has 8 positive cases. Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State while responding to question via TVC's Journalist Hangout on Tuesday revealed that some indigenes (about 127 people brought in by 17 luxurius buses) of the state were travelling from Abidjan and other neighbouring countries through Ogun State some days ago and were stopped at the border by Ogun State. It was reported that the Ogun State Government contacted his counterpart in Osun in order to monitor their movement. The Governor further disclosed that the returnees were immediately quarantined and subsequently subjected to COVID-19 test. Following this development we at Surprise Africa and theeditorials, urge members of the public to cooperate with all agencies of government by observing health directives including regular hand sanitizing and washing. We should adhere strictly and reasonable to social distancing advice in order to avoid an escalation of the spread of the coronavirus.
