The Federal Government has approved the construction of 64 kilometres Sango-Ota/Idiroko Federal road by Mike Adenuga’s Globacom Limited under the tax credit policy of the Nigerian government. The construction work for the route linking Nigeria with neighbouring Benin Republic is billed to commence by January 2022.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday, while inspecting the ongoing construction of the Loto toll plaza along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He said the contract for the reconstruction of the highway was undergoing procurement process under the Tax Credit Scheme of the federal government for the communication company.
According to him documentations were at advanced stage to mobilise the contractor to site, adding that the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency was already fixing some bad portions of the road.
Meanwhile the Federal Government has approved the rehabilitation works by FERMA, which is meant to precede the award of contract for reconstruction of the distressed international route.
“While the processing of the contract is on-going, there is a synergy between the Federal Ministry of Works and Ogun State Government to put this road in a motorable state,” he said.
He said a delegation of the Federal Ministry of Works visited the site last week to ascertain the level of work to be carried out.
The Editorials gathered that the consultations between the Federal Government and Glo had reached an advanced stage on both rehabilitation and reconstruction of the road.
In a statement released by Dr. Dapo Abiodun , Governor of Ogun State, the Governor said targeted roadworks would begin until December with total reconstruction immediately afterwards, following last week's inspection of critical sections of the Sango-Idiroko and Lagos-Abeokuta Roads,
He said, “This is part of the commitments of the federal government, as revealed by the Hon. Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
The Governor disclosed that Mike Adenuga would be using his tax credit relief for the reconstruction of the Sango-Idiroko Road, which is set to begin in January.Promising that the state government would be handling traffic and other encumbrances while the palliative works and reconstruction commences.
