UAE approves $45 million for reconstruction of 86 km Minna-Bida road in Niger State



The United Arab (UAE) has approved $45 million in finance towards the reconstruction of 86 kilometres of Minna-Bida Road in Niger State. 

This was confirmed by Dr. Fahad Al Taffaq, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria @altaffaq, and obtained by the Editorialsng on Thursday. 



The Editorialsng gathered that the fund for the project was made possible through the collaboration with between UAE Government, Nigeria Government, and Abu Dhabi_Fund for Development (ADFD)

According to Dr. Fahad Al Taffaq, this is a commendable stride in our bilateral relations with Nigeria. 

He said, "The $45 million financing towards the development of Minna-Bida Road in Niger State sets a new path for a strategic partnership that embodies the beginning of a comprehensive development phase in Nigeria. 

In a statement by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the organisation disclosed that the agreement represents a significant milestone, as Nigeria becomes the latest African country to establish a distinguished relationship with ADFD.


According to ADFD the funded strategic project aims to rehabilitate infrastructure and develop health and education services in the project area, which is expected to promote economic and commercial activities in Nigeria.

It further said that ADFD's partnership with the Nigerian Government embodies the beginning of a comprehensive development phase in Nigeria. 

 Zainab Ahmed, Nigeria's Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, while confirming the agreement, disclosed that the ADFD-funded strategic road project will connect the city of Minna, the capital of Niger State with other regions in Nigeria. 

She further noted that the project will streamline the transportation of passengers and goods and fosters economic and social growth in Niger State.  


The Editorialsng gathered that the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), had in  September 2021, approved the disbursement of a US $86.64 million loan to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, for the construction and upgrading of the 82-kilometre Minna-Bida road, expected to be handled by Dantata and Sawoe Company.


The Board of Executive Directors of the Bank gave the approval of the loan at its 341st meeting held on the sidelines of the IsDB Group Board of Governors’ 2021 Annual General Meeting in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.


The Board approved funds totaling US$110.14 Million for three new development projects in Infrastructure, Water, and Sanitation as well as Education to be executed in Nigeria (Niger State), Guinea, and Sierra Leone.


Based on the earlier consent of the Niger House of Assembly in 2019, the 86km Minna-Kataeregi-Bida road project was reduced from N25 billion to N17 billion to enable Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, the contractors in charge of the project to handle dualization  from Kpakugun to Garatu (0km to 15 kilometers)


IDB was expected to manage the construction of the remaining 71km out of which only 35 km have been constructed for a total cost of N11 billion.
