Oredola Adeola

Mr. IG Wala, a human Right activist from Gombe  State has recalled the actions he took , which helped avert planned abduction of school girls in Gombe State.

IG Wala

He made this observation as a pointer to the fact that community policing and proactiveness are required in averting future abduction of school girls by the Islamic militants.

He said, "when Boko Haram invaded the small town and were advancing towards the Federal Girls Government College (FGGC) Bajoga, Gombe State, with the intention of abducting the school girls, we swiftly flung into action as a community to avoid a Chibok- like incident.

“Firstly, the people of the neighboring communities were vigilant to have observed and reported, via their mobile phones,  the plans of the  Boko Haram armed men, when they were advancing towards Bajoga.

“When I was contacted, I said words of prayer and swung into action by contacting the teachers of the school and worked together with them. I then reached out to the Governor through his ADC and the Governor was ordered the Commissioner of Education to give us all the logistical support to ensure smooth evacuation of these girls.

“ We made the teachers and the students to escape from the school through the opposite direction and walk for over 6 hours in the bush, before our intervention with military support.

"With the help of my friend, the former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Inuwa Garba, we bought enough water and snacks, and headed into the bush with 17 buses plus 2 Hilux of the Military men. God answered our prayers for being proactive and our act of promptness paid off," he concluded.

The human right activist however charged leadership of communities in the country to be extra vigilant and proactive in securing lives and properties of their people.  communities in such areas.

Corroborating Mr. Wala’s view, one Mr. Idris Garba Umar, a Quantity Surveyor, based in Gombe State said, “As a witness to the invasion of  Gombe via Biu road, I am convinced that the people of Yobe and Borno State could have played a major role in averting the attack.

“How can vehicular movement occur without the communities alerting the public and most especially the security personnel? How is it possible for anyone to miss the foot track of the militias?

" I suspect a cover up Harsh,Harsh.  It is quite appauling that a Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Yobe State, can fabricate a misleading story to distract every efforts to search for the girls," Umar queried.

Mr. Ibrahim Abu, whose mother was the school Principal also confirmed the heroic role played by Mr Wala during the planned invasion.
