Lagos govt. reabsorbs waste management staff, operators across all 20LGs/37LCDAs

The Lagos State Government has reabsorbed and reinstated staff and operators of PSP in the state. This was disclosed at a meeting coordinated by Mr Tunde Hunpe, Special Adviser on Environmental to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who represented the Governor at the meeting.




During the meeting held at the weekend, at the Ministry of the Environment, it was disclosed that all PSP operators have been reinstated, and they are urged to return to their previous areas of operations.

In one of the conditions, PSP operators are instructed to handle domestic waste with ZERO COST to the members of public, this includes waste from residential premises, institutions i.e. schools ,hospitals excluding medical waste while major roads will be taking care by Visionscape.

The government asked PSP Operators to continue  servicing commercial waste. It also requested the operators to continue receiving service charge from consumers.

Visionscape/Cleaner Lagos Initiative has been charged to pay PSP operators for refuse collected from domestic premises to dump site after 15days with one year contract agreement and to be reviewed after a year onward.

The Government further asked all PSP operators assigned to Somolu to cartaway two trips from each political wardsx8=16trips wklyx4wks=64trips from domestic premises on monthly basis.

The state Environmental Services Department has been charged with the responsibility of  monitoring  activities of PSP and report back to the Ministry of Environment on weekly basis.

The Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) have been instructed to hold meeting with regularly with the PSP operators in order to know their needs or challenges.

All printing press in the state have been identified as commercial premises and they have been ordered to pay directly to PSP operators.

The  20 LGs and 37 LCDAs have been asked to compliment efforts of the PSP operators in order to ensure cleaner and sustainable environment in the state.
